About the Author
Mokshagundam L Srikanth, PhD is one of the leading authorities on the application of Synchronous Management. Author of "Regaining Competitiveness" and "Measurements for Effective Decision Making", Dr. Srikanth has been intimately involved in the development and implementation of Synchronous Management concepts and techniques since their early introduction to the USA in 1979. Dr. Srikanth worked in conjunction with Dr Eli Goldratt, author of "The Goal" in the initial development of contraint management theories and their practical application.
Michael Umble, PhD,CFPIM, CQE is a Professor of Operations Management and Director of the Center For Manufacturing Excellence at Baylor University. Specializing in synchronous flow manufacturing systems, Dr. Umble has extensive domestic and international consulting and executive development experience with many diverse organizations, including a number of Fortune 500 companies. Dr. Umble is a Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management with APICS and a Certified Quality Engineer with ASQC.

reference to starting point of DBR idea, but the concept has been evolved recently....

Starts with a historical background. I like the comments about FORD, especialy in 1926 having a complete cycle from iron ore to finished car in just 81 hours!!!
There is a comparison between assembly system (push), JIT (lean, pull), MRP II (push) and DBR (TOC, push and pull).
I like the interpretation of DBR classification as both pull & push.
There is a historical roots search for standard costing and comparison between cost accounting & Throughput accounting.
DBR is explained but since it is 1997 the latest version of theory is not present. For example in the book there are two types of buffers such as time and stock. Currently there are one more as capacity buffer and the next candidate is budget buffer.
I have noticed that the book refers to buffer content but as I watched Goldratt in videos he is talking about physical presence of partial buffer just before constraint.
Anyway, I like the book, will read 2nd vol�me soon.

Synchronous Management

If you manage a manufacturing operation, this is one book that is a must read. Synchronous Management is written specifically for the manufacturing environment, laying the groundwork for building a successful T.O.C. implementation. The information provided may be translated into a variety of industries; however it is so focused on manufacturing, the reader would need to translate the information into correlations with their own environment for industries outside of manufacturing.
Synchronous management is written in very simple english, and takes the reader through an understanding of how faulty measurement or evaluation systems can cripple a company; how cost accounting can actually lead to very poor decisions; what is meant by bottlenecks, non bottlenecks, and system constraints; what is meant by drum-buffer-rope; how to implement drum-buffer-rope; and how to establish the best possible batch sizing for maximum throughput.
I will give this book a two thumbs up for anyone in the manufacturing industry, and also a very high rating for those in other industries.
