Impressive detailed and accurate versions!

I bought this for 'I'll See You In My Dreams'. I am very satisfied! I only wish I was good enough to play these songs better. Very challenging, but the versions are note for note accurate. Well worth the price and a must if your a Chet or Mark fan and want to learn their stuff.

As other reviewers have written, this is not a book for beginners...but then neither Chet nor Mark are beginning guitar players. This seems to match up very well to what you hear on the CD by the same name. Not to scare off anyone interested in picking up some new techniques or tips, I think you would find this book of value even if you don't aspire to being able to play like the masters.

About the Author
During her nine years as an editor for Disney Publishing, Jessica Ward edited coffee table books on classic Disney animation and modern live-action. She also worked on several books for the Disney Parks including the Birnbaum official travel guides, and several cookbooks including the Delicious Disney series. Her writing credits for Disney include Duffy, the Disney Bear, two Minnie and Daisy B.F.F. chapter books, and G-Force: The Dossier. As a freelancer, Jessie has written The Ultimate Disney Party Book for Edda and the companion book for the Frozen Paint-by-Number Kit for Sterling. Jessica lives in Connecticut.

Twelve Lovely Disney Princesses in Amigurumi

The kit includes enough yarn to finish one each of two Disney Princesses – Cinderella and Ariel. After that, you will need to purchase additional yarn, fiberfill, safety eyes, and other assorted items to finish more of the characters. The kit does call for worsted weight acrylic yarn but does not tell what type of yarn was used. While it does not state it exactly, I would hazard a guess that that is what is included.

The book includes instructions for 12 Disney Princess characters. They are: Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida.

There are nine colors of yarn included in the kit. They are: (larger skeins) red, yellow, medium blue, off-white, (smaller bundles) light green, bright green, light blue, lavender, and black. Also included is a tapestry needle for seaming the figures and adding features with the included red cotton embroidery floss, an inexpensive crochet hook in size 3.50 (US E/4), four 12 mm plastic safety eyes and fiberfill. There are also fairly detailed instructions including many diagrams from the basics to more advanced concepts including embroidery stitches. Unfortunately, there are no directions included for how to place the safety eyes. I am sure that this information can be found on the internet with a simple search. The directions do tell you exactly where to place the eyes. I must admit that I won't be using these eyes but will instead find ones that I can purchase so all of my figures will be consistent. Either that or I will embroider eyes on using basic satin stitches.

While the yarn in this kit is very nice, I will be using my own stash to be sure that the sizes, colors, look, and feel of my characters are consistent. The instructions are detailed but I don't think that this is a project for most beginners. It uses techniques that crocheters with a bit more experience would feel comfortable with. If you are a beginner, just be sure you have access to someone or a website that can give you answers if you have any questions about the crochet and embroidery instructions.

The hook is also okay but I prefer to use my own for ergonomic reasons as well as personal preference. The characters look to be fairly small - if you want to make them larger, use thicker yarn and larger hooks. The instructions should work well no matter the size. The tapestry needle is decent and works well for its purpose.

I have purchased and crocheted figures from other kits from this company (Star Wars, Frozen, Peanuts, and Classic Disney) as well as one distributed by another company but which looks exactly like this brand with a slightly different box (Disney Winnie the Pooh). The instructions in the kits are all very similar as are the materials. I have been very impressed with the previous kits and believe this one will be just as good and recommend it to an intermediate or above crocheter without hesitation.

This crochet kit was so much fun! I am really happy it came with enough materials to make 2 Disney princess's as it helps you realize how much yarn you will need to create the rest of the princesses (does not take a lot of any color really). I feel this item is more geared towards people with some experience in crocheting but the illustrations in the book are VERY helpful! I have so far crocheted everyone in this kit except for the fairy godmother (still trying to find the same periwinkle color yarn)
Only slightly vegetative thing I have to say about this kit is that the book does not list the company of the yarns that were provided in this kit. I would have loved to purchase the exact yarns the writer used, but similar colors were not too hard to find in craft stores.
I would definitely suggest anybody who loves amigurumi and crocheting to buy this and check it out.

This is a great little kit. You get enough materials to make one Ariel and one Cinderella. Materials include yarn, filling, 12mm plastic safety eyes, needled and red thread for mouth. The quality of the yarn isn't great, and I prefer smaller safety eyes for the size of the finished product. The crochet hook is also very basic, however... How many amigurumi patterns include all materials needed? Not many. You get 12 patterns which usually run about $5 a piece if purchased separately online. The patterns include detailed easy to read instructions. The book itself is small, so be aware if you have a hard time reading small print. I have been crocheting amigurumi for about 4 years now and I really enjoyed this kit.

Convicting, Comforting, Challenging, and Inspiring

Ever feel like your stuck spiritually? Mark Buchanan did, and out of it poured this book about moving beyond our ideas of God and getting to know the real God of the Bible.

Many Christians get stuck in what he calls the Borderland, the land between salvation and sanctification. The first half of the book goes into detail about the life in Borderland and what keeps us there. Such things as pride, laziness, fear, doubt, self-reliance, and more are all looked at.

The second half explores ways we can get to know the God of the Bible, who isn't safe and who might ask much of us. But by getting to know Him, we move beyond the familiar into a rich spiritual life. Mark doesn't go for something out of the ordinary here. And there are no quick, sure answers. Instead, he goes looks at familiar disciplines of the Christian life. But he goes beyond the familiar and looks at why we do them and how they can affect our lives.

This book is wonderful. We get an honest look at the life of a Christian and the struggles involved. It's filled with examples from life and the Bible to help explain its points. And it's written in an easy to follow style. Yet it's filled with so much, it's often hard to digest. I'm already planning a reread there's so much here to chew on.

The first half might have been a little long. He had me convinced I needed the second part with the introduction. Still, if you want to grow in your relationship with God, this is the book for you.

A Reasonable Treatment

I mentioned to a friend that I was reading Mark Buchanan's book Your God Is Too Safe and that I had recently finished The Rest of God. "What's Buchanan like?" he wanted to know. The best I could do was to suggest that the style and theme of his writing is quite a lot like what he'd find if he read John Eldredge. But unlike Eldredge, Buchanan's books are actually grounded on some solid theology. I was surprised to find that I enjoyed a book that was endorsed by the likes of Philip Yancey and Eugene Patterson. Yet it is also endorsed by J.I. Packer who says, quite accurately, "Within a framework of biblical orthodoxy, Mark Buchanan's jabbing insights minister a salutary pastoral shake-up, drawing and driving us sluggards to come closer to our God."

Buchanan believes that evangelicals have constructed a God of their own making: a God who is too safe. He is a loving God, but a God who is entirely predictable. But the truth is, this God bears little resemblance to the God of Scripture--a God who is entirely unpredictable. We dislike God as He really is, and so we run away from Him like Jonah or hide from Him like Adam. Where we end up when we do this is a place Buchanan calls "borderland," a strange and safe place that promises nothing and delivers nothing. Your God Is Too Safe is a wake-up call--a call to escape this borderland and live with God in "the holy wild."

In the first half of the book, Buchanan lays the groundwork, showing how and why we run and hide from God. The primary reason is bad theology: a steady traffic of invented or distorted ideas about God. But "God isn't nice," he says. "He isn't safe. God is a consuming fire. Though he cares about the sparrow, the embodiment of His care is rarely doting or pampering. God's main business is not ensuring that you and I get parking spaces close to the mall entrance [this was written pre-Osteen too!] or that the bed sheets in the color we want are--miracle!--on sale this week. His main business is making you and me holy. And for those of us who love borderland more than holy ground, whose hearts are more slow than burning, that always requires both the kindness and the sternness of our God." After suggested that the Catholic cult of Mary arose because of a dark and punishing medieval portrait of God the Father, he challenges evangelicals. "In Protestantism, I think we've simply substituted the safe god. But the biting irony is this: Neither the safe god nor the tyrant god are the real God...the true God is far more fierce and fearsome than the bullying and petulant god of our imaginations. But His anger is not irritability: It is the distillation of His justice, His hatred of evil. It is what we would want, even demand, from a good God." This is a cutting insight and one that challenged me. As Tozer said, we need to take refuge from God, in God.

The second half of the book challenges Christians with spiritual disciplines. "We have to train for the spiritual life. That's the most lost idea to the world, and it requires whole books and sermon series to establish its value, even its validity." We need to practice holy habits and to weave these habits deeply into our lives. Like all habits, good, holy habits eventually come to define us and to become our ways. They may be awkward and feel unnatural at the beginning, but they will soon become natural, beautiful and indispensable. The disciplines Buchanan teaches are: practicing the presence of God, understanding the wounds that have inflicted us and allowing God to heal them, confessing sin both to God and to others, solitude, fasting, reading Scripture, service, prayer and delight. Among the better chapters are those dealing with fasting, confession of sin and solitude. Buchanan discusses these without falling into the contemplative, New Age practices that have become far too common in the church today. He provides practical advice on how to proceed in developing such disciplines.

As may be clear by now, Your God Is Too Safe is quite a good book. Buchanan writes with force and conviction and a good deal of urgency. But one concern stayed in the back of my mind throughout the book. While Buchanan's theology is generally sound, he often quotes those whose theology strays outside that framework of biblical orthodoxy mentioned by Packer. He quotes Philip Yancey on a few occasions and holds up Mother Teresa and Saint Francis as examples of people who have "gotten it." He portrays Richard Foster as an expert on the spiritual disciplines. When I see people holding up Mother Teresa as the example of Christian virtue I always wonder just how much that person understands about biblical theology. How can a person truly understand justification, and yet hold as an example a person who denied it? Are there not better examples we can use? Do we really feel that Mother Teresa was such a wonderful example of Christian virtue, or is she just the easy and popular example? This was an ongoing disappointment with this book.

Like Wild at Heart, Your God Is Too Safe will not appeal to all Christians (though, unlike Eldredge's book, this one is targetted at both men and women). My father, for instance, cannot tolerate terms like "the holy wild" or "woundedness" or "brokenness" and would get little enjoyment from this book. But for those who enjoyed the style of Wild at Heart but objected to the content, Your God Is Too Safe may have appeal. However, I would not recommend it in place of a book such as Don Whitney's "Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life" - a book that will provide a more consistently biblical framework in developing and enjoying the spiritual disciplines. Buchanan's book is good. It is challenging. But it is not the strongest, most Scriptural treatment of the topic.

A CHRISTIAN CLASSIC

Mark Buchanan is surely among the finest Christian writers of our day. His scriptural insights, lucid illustrations, and moving anecdotes ring true and speak profoundly to the modern Christian reader. Buchanan delves deeply into the realities of spiritual struggle and discouragement; of joy and discipline. I remember turning to a friend once and crying out, "How hard is this (Christianity) supposed to be?!" Buchanon answers that question, and others, with eloquence I have rarely seen matched. I'm on my second reading of the book and have bought twelve copies to give to friends. Of the two young pastors I have given copies to, both have passed additional copies along to others, and have raved about it. Read it!

About the Author
Gabriel Popescu is an Assistant Professor at Beckman Institute for Advanced Science & Technology, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He and his colleagues started the Nanobiophotonics Summer School at the Beckman Institute in 2009. The school was sponsored by the Network for Computational Nanotechnology (NCN), which is funded by the National Science Foundation. Plans for future Nanobiophotonics Summer School sessions are currently underway.

Excellent, very useful book on nanobiophotonics!

This book expands on several of the current nanobiophotonics research areas. It covers all the important aspects, from the methods that are needed for development to various biomedical applications. I particularly liked the idea that the book starts with brief introduction to biology basics (biology of the cancer cell) and mathematical tools (review of electromagnetic fields). Great team authors made of top notch experts in their field.

Great insights Israeli Business Culture

Osnat Lautman's book reminds us that even in our global, online, always connected world, sometimes when you are dealing with another person at the end of the line, they may not be just like you.

You can retain Osnat as a consultant, or now, you can buy her book, "Israeli Business Culture," which is a great read and a terrific primer on Israeli business culture.

Even for someone like me, who’s traveled back and forth to Israel for twenty-two years, and makes this magical place the center of my universe, reading Osnat’s book is a gentle and important reminder that being cognizant of, and embracing the differences and similarities, can make all the difference in the world.

This book really brings the reality of business and culture. so many true statements and explanations. Teaches you the reality of this country and the true character of Israelis and the justifications of their actions, both in the business world and the security and political world.
I really enjoyed reading this book. True insight. Doing business with Israelis myself, it all put things into perspective. But this book also teaches you a whole lot more on the country, history, people and culture.

Loved this book! Highly recommended.

I really loved this book and you can definitely benefit from it as well. For those interested in understanding a different culture, improving their relationship with their Israeli colleagues and/or venturing into business in Israel, this is a must read.

The author, Osnat Lautman, stressed the importance of cultural differences and how it can be the make of break of your company. It is full of illustrative examples, fun comments that will make you laugh and in-depth explanation of important issues that will improve your communication skills.

In short, I highly recommend this book!

About the Author
William S. Burroughs was born in St. Louis in 1914. He is best-known work is 1959's "Naked Lunch"-which became the focus of a landmark 1962 Supreme Court decision that helped eliminate literary censorship in the United States. Described by Norman Mailer as one of America's few writers genuinely "possessed by genius," he died in 1997. His many other works include "Junky" and "The Place of Dead Roads" (Picador).

Very effective.

For such an old book, this one is excellent. The style is amazingly simple but effective. It reminded me almost of Charles Bukowski's work at some points. I can see why William Burroughs would have admired this memoir and even cherished it.

It held my attention

I enjoyed this book. It held my attention so well that I finished it within two days. It transported me vividly into the seedy underbelly of late nineteenth century America. I found myself in the presence of such larger than life characters as Salt Chunk Mary, the Sanctimonious Kid, Smiler, and “Foot-and-a-half” George. I could smell the scent of cheap rooming-houses. I could feel the tension of slowly sneaking a wallet out from under a sleeping man’s pillow.

I bought it because of its much-documented influence on William Burroughs. He first read it aged thirteen and it remained a significant part of his inner landscape for the rest of his life. It is easy to see why this book had such an attraction for the young Burroughs. It’s almost as if the thirteen year old knew where he was heading as soon as he had read this book. Prose style, life-perspective, and many of the characters could (and do) walk straight out of “You Can’t Win” and into a Burroughs text.

Anyone who knows anything about “El Hombre Invisible” will recognise the following: here is the Sanctimonious Kid advising the young Jack on page 118.
“Do you want everybody to look at you? Do you want everybody that looks at you to remember you? You do not. You want as few people to look at you as possible, and you want those few to forget you as soon as possible,” he continued with emphasis.
“What you want is clothes that will not detain the eye for a second. Expensive as you like, and well-fitting, but not loud or striking. You want clothes that a man or woman could not describe as blue, brown or black five minutes after looking at you. You want neutral clothes. Be as positive yourself as you like, but no positive clothes. You’ve got to watch yourself, Kid. You know that ‘old maxim’, eternal vigilance.”

This book is well worth reading. The illustrations by Joe Coleman are also memorable.

I knew nothing about this book or the author before ...

I knew nothing about this book or the author before I started reading it and it was a really pleasant surprise. It's the warts-n-all memoir of a career criminal (specifically: a prowler) at the end of the 19th century/start of the 20th century. The author doesn't attempt to justify his life of crime or blame it on a troubled upbringing/society. He just tells it straight. Fascinating book, and this edition has some further essays by the author at the back on crime and justice which are also worth reading.

Through the study of more than twenty novels produced in Spain from the 1840s to the 1920s, this book explores the literary means by which the social options available to modern Spanish bourgeois citizens were discursively constructed, occasionally before and often concomitantly to their production in reality. As a result, this study is concerned with the interplay of realism and reality in modern Spain. From the earliest folletines of the 1840s to the Modernist novels of the 1920s, the majority of novels written in this eighty-year period are what one might term novelas de costumbres contempor�neas, or novels of contemporary customs, and therefore primarily concerned with faithfully copying and moreover influencing real social norms in the public sphere.

In these pages, I argue that the spatial and behavioral discourses in the novels of contemporary customs offer a telling history of the evolving formulation of the Spanish bourgeoisie. The linking of novels and urbanism is hardly arbitrary in the context of nineteenth-century Spain. Urbanism, particularly in the nineteenth century, was as much a verbal construction as the novel, as proven by the lengthy treatises of such prominent Spanish bureaucrats, engineers, architects, and urban planners as Ram�n de Mesonero Romanos, Ildefons Cerd� and Carlos Mar�a de Castro. For Spanish intellectuals of this era, city planning and the novel functioned as parallel, enmeshed discourses in which to work out what it meant to be middle class and the roles this class ought to play in contemporary society. In this way, they can be considered associated fields of discourse, in the sense described by Michel Foucault in The Archaeology of Knowledge. Foucault's treatise was a call for scholars to reexamine historical fields and question the historical grouping of knowledge(s) into certain discursive unities, and consider whether these might be broken up and new ones conceived.In this vein, this book undertakes a broader and more integrative view of the Spanish nineteenth century, calling into question the boundaries of fields such as etiquette and urban planning, or literature and touristic discourse.
